Dental Hygiene License Reinstatement Refresher Course

This 16-hour course is a Kentucky Board of Dentistry approved course for individuals who are interested in reinstating their Dental Hygienist license. An additional 6-hour Anesthesia Refresher course is also available following the Dental Hygiene Refresher course. Participants must register for each refresher course separately.

Topical Outline

Day 1

8:00-9:00 Ethical and Legal Responsibilities, Jurisprudence overview

9:00-10:00 Medical history & vital signs, Oral assessment, data collection

10:00-12:00 Periodontal classification, CAMBRA, treatment planning

12:00-1:00 Lunch

1:00-2:00 HIPAA and Bloodborne Pathogen

2:00-5:00 Digital radiography, intraoral cameras

Day 2

8:00-1:00 Manual and mechanized instrumentation, Infection Control

8:00-9:30 Lecture on instruments, Ergonomics and Infection Control

9:30-1:00: Instrumentation in clinic, adjunctive therapies such as Sealants, Air polishing, fluorides

1:00-2:00 Lunch

2:00-3:00 Instrument sharpening

3:00-5:00 Pain control mechanisms review

(local anesthesia, nitrous, non-injectable subgingival options)

· Additional day for full local anesthesia review and injections lab upon request and additional fee.

· An additional day (2-hours) is recommended for participants who have been out of practice for ten (10) or more years for an additional fee of $200. Please also sign up for the Dental Hygiene Instrumentation Refresher course.
